Career Path

SAS 70 Solutions is, by design, a relatively flat organization. Career paths with our company are not based on the traditional “pyramid” structure employed by most accounting firms. Rather, SAS 70 Solutions is structured in a manner similar to law firms. Our personnel are experts that enjoy practicing their craft. They joined SAS 70 Solutions for the purposes of developing an expertise, not for the purposes of becoming an administrator or sales person as their career progressed.

Generally speaking, personnel join our company as “senior auditors”. At any given time, our senior auditors are comprised of former “Big 4” senior consultants, managers, and senior managers. The average senior auditor has over five years of professional services experience. Such personnel typically carry multiple professional certifications and have completed in excess of 40 SAS 70 audits. Senior auditors are responsible for the execution of fieldwork activities and the preparation of reports.

A "manager" level is in place to perform oversight for every audit. The manager team is comprised of personnel that average over ten years of professional services experience. Such personnel have successfully completed at least 100 SAS 70 audits, and in multiple cases, over 200 SAS 70 audits. Managers are responsible for planning audits, handling “front-line” issues with clients, ensuring the successful completion of audits, and performing any required wrap-up procedures following the completion of fieldwork.

“Shareholder” is the final organizational level. Current shareholders are ex-Big 4 executives that have successfully completed over 200 SAS 70 audits. A shareholder is assigned to every audit and reviews all draft reports and related workpapers before draft reports are issued to clients. Shareholders are responsible for the operations of the company and most business development activities. Shareholders are also ultimately responsible for the successful completion of all audits and the maintenance of client relationships.

The previous paragraphs are a description of SAS 70 Solutions’ current organizational layers. These layers continue to evolve as the company grows and do not necessarily include descriptions of changes that are already planned for the future.

Flexibility

At SAS 70 Solutions, personnel are not limited by their job title. Some personnel are auditors by nature, and they join the company for the purpose of being allowed to practice their skill. Other personnel have interests in developing internal processes or methodologies. Yet others have interests in assisting in business development activities. Our company expects and requires that its personnel be superior auditors, but also facilitates its auditors’ ability to develop other professional skills.

SAS 70 Solutions management encourages its personnel to be as involved in our continuous improvement as they like. Opportunities are created for those that show initiative to improve the company. As a niche firm, our employees have much greater access to the owners of the company and have the opportunity to make significant contributions to the development of the organization than is typically offered by our global competitors.

Professional Certifications

SAS 70 Solutions actively supports all of its professional personnel in their efforts to achieve and maintain the following certifications:

» Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – This certification demonstrates a
   mastery of accounting, auditing and related topics. Because SAS 70
   Solutions is, first and foremost, a licensed CPA firm, it is critical to the
   success of the firm that a significant portion of our team be comprised
   of licensed CPAs. SAS 70 Solutions only expects personnel with an
   accounting background that are qualified to sit for the CPA exam to
   achieve this designation.
» Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) – This
   certification demonstrates a mastery of the ten domains of information
   security and is the most widely recognized information security
   certification in existence. Our high concentration of CISSPs is a
   major differentiator between our company and our competitors.
» Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) – This certification
   demonstrates a mastery of information systems auditing concepts and
   methods. Such expertise is requisite for the purposes of the IT
   auditing procedures that are executed in conjunction with every
   SAS 70 audit.
» Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) – This certification demonstrates a
   mastery of business process auditing concepts and methods. Such
   expertise is requisite for the purposes of understanding individual
   client’s widely varying business processes, as well as being able to
   identify and effectively test relevant controls for the purposes of a
   SAS 70 audit.

A significant portion of our personnel have achieved and maintain all of these certifications. All other personnel are actively working towards this goal.

Professional Education

SAS 70 Solutions provides time and resources for non-CPA employees to obtain a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education ("CPE") per year. At least 80 hours of CPE is made available to employees that hold a CPA license. CPE courses generally include a mixture of self-study courses and third party instructor led courses.

For the benefit of employees, SAS 70 Solutions centrally tracks certifications, CPE requirements and completed CPE hours, including allocations to applicable certifications along with imaged certifications of completions. Employees have ad hoc access to their CPE documentation at all times.

For those employees that have achieved all of these certifications, CPE decisions are oriented around meeting the CPE requirements for each of their certifications, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. In other words, we work with employees to identify CPE opportunities that are of interest to the employee and which preferably count as qualified CPE hours for multiple certifications maintained by that employee.

For those employees that have not achieved all of these certifications, CPE decisions are balanced between courses that will prepare the employee to obtain the remaining certifications and classes that will help the employee meet the CPE requirements for certifications already achieved.
